The AMRAD Corporation, established to develop and market medical research products through their collaboration with associated research institutes and commercial partners, commissioned these new laboratories at their Burnley Operations Site.

Merat Pty Ltd Architects were commissioned for the design, development and management of the construction of the building, that consists of 2,000 sq. metres of flexible laboratory facilities for chemistry and micro-biological research within a 2 storey, reinforced concrete structure.

The brief required a building that would link with other laboratories and core services facilities enabling staff to communicate from one end of the site to the other without the need to travel externally.

Adaptability to future research directives required a flexible and readily demountable benching system achieved by modular componentry.
