DONOVANS RESTAURANT

Donovans Restaurant is a dare-to-be-different approach to 90's Restaurant interiors - a response directly inspired by the owner's brief. "We want a home on the beach" with fireplaces, big kitchen tables, a wine room, views to the kitchen and direct access to the terrace. The result is a kaleidoscope of light, colour and an eclectic objects de house.
A strong emphasis on warm and tactile interior finishes, such as a variety of timbers and timber finishes, ochre lime wash exteriors, sandstone fireplaces, a taupe coloured cement render, luxurious fabrics, cement and galvanized steel bathrooms and kitchen like storage hutches, were deliberate methods of giving the new refurbishment a beachside home genre. Nothing deliberate or contrived but purposely textural.
The restaurant was awarded the 1998 Design and Development Award for the"Best Non-Residential Development" by the City of Port Phillips.
