This project comprised the renovations of the former Elderly Citizens Centre for conversion into a community centre with a multi-purpose hall, display centre, meeting room and associated playroom with support facilities. The project retains the focus for senior citizens activities and expands the complex to more fully utilize the building’s spaces for wider community needs to accommodate group meeting spaces, public meetings and social functions. Office space is included along with a kitchen for catering needs. Capitalising on the outlook to the northern courtyard has created a desirable link with outdoor activities. Renovations to the complex has successfully achieved the client’s functional aims. Through the sympathetic treatment of the interiors and enhancement of entrances, the identity and accessibility of the centre presents a wide attraction to the broader community and encourages the informal use of the building as well as providing for more structured programs.
