Challenges:

• No interruption to pathology services was possible. Staging of works.

• Maintaining existing body holding stores operational until new larger facilities developed.

Floors above and below remained occupied during construction. Issues for the designer:

• Management of noise, dust,

• Maintaining active services,

• Removal of demolition debris,

• Delivery of materials.

Limited existing documentation of hospital services. A systematic approach required for redevelopment with a series of ‘prior let’ contracts.
