Merat Pty Ltd Architects were appointed as head consultants to develop new laboratories and office accommodation for Nobel Laureate, Professor Peter Doherty on the second floor of the Microbiology Department’s Parkville building.

The second floor space became available from the consolidation of teaching laboratories to the western end of the floor, presenting an area of approx. 500 sq. metres to be redeveloped into research laboratories and support facilities for senior personnel of the Professor’s unit.

A unique feature of the design response was to develop suitable benching and storage componentry, adaptable to the many and varied projects undertaken within the facility.
